Biography

  • The area /region were House(castle/burg/Hof) Baeck was build was named Marke Baak ,so people living in that area would say they were from Baeck or Baak ,later maybe standarised and used as last names van Beeck /Beek or van der Beeck/Beek.
  • http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baak_(plaats) and here they try to explain the name ,it seems there was a brook (beek) named Baak or Baeck and that's why the area was named Baak. This Area is in the Netherlands ,Achterhoek,Gelderland.
  • So if Rem Jansz really used the name van der Back or van der Baeck and later van der Beeck ,it is possible he was coming from this area . During those days there were a lot of wars and that explains why a lot of people went to Amsterdam or Oost Friesland (Jeveren) for example (see wikipedia link) From Gelderland to Germany is also logic because from there to Germany isnt that far.
  • Didn't find a Jan van der Beeck that had a son Rem though, but keep searching (also using the Back and Baeck spellings )

Last name should be spelled van der Beeck ,

according to other source (van Melsen) : last name was van der Back Femmetje Rems, overleden 1686, dochter van Rem Janse van der Back en Jannetje Rapelje; now al is pasted together with capitals ,in Dutch it would be :van der Beeck or van der Back as it was spelled
