Biography

Bluford "Blue" Vanderpool was born in 1831, in Missouri, United States. He was the son of Wynant Vanderpool and Nancy Linville; one of 15 children.

In 1850 Bluford (age 19, farmer) was living with his father Wynant Vanderpool (age 55, farmer), mother Nancy (age 46), and nine siblings in Ray, Missouri, United States.^[1]

He may have first married Lear or Sarah Campbell in Ray Co., MO. If so, she died before May 4, 1853 when he married Elizabeth Jane Stanturf in Mill Grove, Mercer Co., MO. They had two children: my great grandmother, Delilah Katherine (Hammons) and John Wesley Vanderpool. In 1860 Bluford Vanderpool (age 30) was living with his wife Elizabeth J (age 21) and two children: Delilor C (Delila, age 4), and Jno W (John Wesley, age 2), in Knoxville, Ray, Missouri.^[2]

Bluford Vanderpool served in the United States Civil War.

Military Service

Bluford became ill with consumption during the Civil War. He fought in Co., H 51st MO. Infantry Vol. and was discharged on Aug. 31, 1865. His papers state that he stood 5'5", had dark complexion and blue eyes. ^[3][4]

He passed away in 1867. After his death, his widow and children were destitute and tried for years to get his pension. I don't know that they ever did.

I have tried to find his grave but though I feel he is buried in Daviess Co., MO., I haven't found him.
