Biography

Paulus van der Voort was baptised 8 July 1681 in the Flatbush Reformed Dutch Church in Kings County, New York. His father, also named Paulus van der Voort, had died before the baptism.[1] Paulus was raised by his mother Lysbeth Paulus Dircks and step-father Claes Barentse Blom.[2]

Paulus married Neeltje Staats before 1706.[1]

Ledley seems to indicate he may have moved between between Mespat Kills, Bushwick, and Newtown,[1] however, Mespat Kills was an area to which both Newtown and Bushwick laid claim and over which they had a long-standing border dispute,[3] so it is possible that he was not as itinerant as his appearances in these places would make it seem.

There are rumors that he died in 1738 or 1752 in New Utrecht, Kings County, New York, however no satisfactory sources have presented themselves for either date.[citation needed]

The couple may have had as many as eight children, not all of whom are well-documented.

I am fine with the van der Voort change and the Kings County revision. Thanks!

Daphne: To change the name to van der Voort, make sure to merge -36 into -50, not vice versa. I have approved the merger, and I believe that you should be able to implement it now. Thanks for all your work!

Although I can't find a record of his death, wouldn't New Utrecht, Kings County make a lot more sense than New Utrect, Orange County???

May we please change his last name at birth to "van der Voort" as per http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:New_Netherland_Settlers/Naming_Convention Wikitree naming conventions for New Netherlands Settlers] I know his son-in-law referred to the family as Van der Voort...
