Kare Moana Elizabeth Vernon was born in New Zealand in 1904 to Mary and William John Vernon.[1]
Kara Moena Elizabeth Vernon married William Stanley McGreevy 1925. [2]
Kara married James Michael Healey 1949.[3]
Kara married Thomas McKean 1963.[4]
She passed away in 2006.
Kara Moana Healey became the first female national park ranger in Victoria, Australia. She was a field collector, conservationist, preservationist and naturalist. For ten years, she collected specimens at Tarra-Bulga National Park for identification by the National Herbarium, amounting to a count of 160 by 1961. Two species of fungus have been named after her. A tribute to her was unveiled at the centenary of the park in 2007.[5]
