Note

Note: The Vickers family lived in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky until October 1850 when they moved to Hancock County, Illinois. They stayed there for only 4 years. In the fall of 1854 the Vickers family moved to Henry County, Missouri and settled on a 56 acre farm in section 15. Absalom recorded several land patents. On January 15, 1856, Absalom recorded 40 acres in the SWNW of Section 29, township 41N, Range 25W and 40 acres in the NESE of section 30, township 41N, range 25W. On November 3, 1857, Absalom patented another 40 acres located in S1/21NW of section 19, township 4 1N, range 25W.
Absalom was active in community affairs. From 1868 to 1870 he served as township treasurer and clerk of Bethlehem township.
Absalom and Elizabeth were also active in church activities. They belonged to the Bethlehem Baptist Church almost from the beginning. In 1856, Absalom and several others built the church, the 3rd one in Henry County. Absalom worked many hours keeping the church clean and warm for meetings. During 1880, the old church was sold to Absalom and he moved it to his property and used it as a barn. A new church was built on the site of the old one and on January 1, 1881 it was dedicated with Absalom singing the first song. Absalom donated the acre of land where the church stands and later donated 2 acres for a cemetery.
The Bethlehem Church and cemetery is located 5 miles SE of Clinton in Henry County, Missouri.
Absalom died at the home of his son-in-law, John L. Wood. Since the death of his wife in 1897 he alternated living with his daughters, Mrs. Laura Jennings and Mrs. Adeline Wood in Clinton, Missouri. He was survived by 4 children, - Mrs. Florence Levy of Alta Vista, Kansas; Mrs. Nettie V. Baker of DeSoto, Missouri; and J.W. Vickers of Kansas City.
