Biography

William Vidler was born about 1875 in Heriot, Midlothian, Scotland.[1][2] He was the son of Alfred Vidler and Catherine Graig.[3]

In the 1881 Scotland census, William Vidler, age 6, was living in Edinburgh with parents Alfred and Catherine Vidler, and siblings Robert and John, and boarder Albert Fletcher.[1]

In the 1891 Scotland census, William Vidler, age 16, was living in St Cuthberts, Edinburgh, with parents Alfred Vidler and Catherine Vidler, and with siblings Robert, Isabella, Louisa, Susan and Lockhart. He was an apprentice cooper.[4]

William Vidler, age 25, cooper, son of Alfred Vidler (blacksmith) and Catherine Graig, married Mary W McKenna, age 25, daughter of Francis McKenna and Winifred Robertson, married William Vidler, age 25, on 21 July 1900 in Saint Giles, Edinburgh, Scotland.[3]

In the 1901 Scotland census, William Fiddler, age 26, and Mary W Fiddler, age 26, were living in St Stephen, Edinburgh, Scotland.[2]

In the 1911 Scotland census, William Vidler, age 36, and Mary W Vidler, age 37, were living in St Bernard, Edinburgh, with children Alfred (10), William (6), Winifred (4) and Frank (8 months). He was a cooper.[5]

William Vidler served in the British Army during World War I. His service record lists his wife Mary McKenna, marriage date of 27 Jul 1900 in Edinburgh, and children Alfred (born 1 Apr 1901), Willliam (born 25 Apr 1904), Frank (born 19 July 1910), Winifred (born 6 Dec 1906) and Lockhart (born 27 Jan 1913). His record lists him at enlistment as age 35, 5 feet 6 inches, 128 lbs, grey eyes.[6]

In the 1930-1931 Scotland election register, Mrs Mary Vidler and William Vidler were listed as living in Edinburgh, Scotland at 7061 India Place.[7]
