Biography

Joseph was born in 1827. The 1841 census in Warwickshire, England has Joseph age 13 a Weaver.

Joseph emigrated to Nelson, New Zealand with his parents and siblings on the ship Bolton departing from Gravesend, England in October 1841 and arriving Nelson New Zealand in March 1842. The passenger list for ship listed him as being aged 14 and a labourer.^[1][2]

In NZ , around Wakefield ,NZ Joseph ran hotels.

For a while he was gold mining in the Motueka Valley in the 1880s before going bankrupt .

He then moved to the South Taranaki area with his family.

In 1888 he was in Opunake where he was elected Chairman of the Opunake Licensing Committee.

He died in Opunake in 1903.
