Biography

Thomas was born in about 1802. He married Mary Whiting in 1820.^[1]

Census of 1841 in the district of Holy Trinity, Coventry, Warwickshire, England.. Thomas Wagstaff, age 40 Weaver. ^[2]

Thomas emigrated to Nelson, New Zealand with his wife and children on the ship Bolton departing from Gravesend, England in October 1841 and arriving Nelson New Zealand in March 1842. The passenger list for ship listed him as being aged 36 and a gardener and agricultural labourer.^[3][4]

His age was noted as 40 in the census and it may be that he lied about his age in order to qualify for immigration to New Zealand.

He passed away in 1870.^[5][6][7][8]
