Biography

Cecilia Walker was born circa 1702, in New Kent county, Virginia. About 1721, in Virginia, Cecelia married Sylvanus Stokes, II of Albemarle Parish, Surry county, Virginia. Children include:

  • Marcus Stokes, born circa 1722, married Bethulah (?nee) parents of Marchus Stokes, born circa 1746
  • Michajah Stokes, born circa 1724, father of William Stokes, born circa 1746
  • Drury Stokes born circa 1726
  • Sylvanus Stokes, born circa 1731, died 1778, in Brunswick county, Virginia, married Temperance Clark [1]
  • Phaedra "Phoebe" Stokes, born circa 1732, married Josiah Freeman, circa 1750
  • Susannah Stokes, born circa 1734, married name Green
  • Elizabeth Stokes, born August 20, 1740, and christened October 12, 1740, in Albemarle Parish, Surry county, Virginia [2] married John Knight, Jr. circa 1756
  • Lucy Stokes, born May 13, 1742, and christened June 13, 1742, in Albemarle Parish, Surry county, Virginia [3]
  • Agnes Stokes, born October 8, 1745, christened December 15, 1745, in Albemarle Parish, Surry county, Virginia [4] mentioned in the Will of her grandfather, Silvanus Stokes, Sr. who died circa 1748
  • Infant Stokes, born January 27, 1747, christened March 13, 1747, in Albemarle Parish, Surry county, Virginia [5]

Sylvanus Stokes, II wrote his Will on February 25, 1758 and it was proved on June 17, 1766. Cecelia (Walker) Stokes wrote her Will in 1783:

Walker-23058 and Walker-4604 appear to represent the same person because: Walker-23058 is a mess, but represents the wife of Sylvanus Stokes, and the mother of Phoebe Stokes, who married John Bell, in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
