Biography

Charles is recorded in the household of his maternal grandfather, J. M. Pickett in the 1910 census as Charles Hodge.[1]

Charles and his brother, Howard Walker were brought to the St. Joseph Orphanage in 1911 and apparently Charles remained there for the rest of his life.[2][3]

This writer hasn't located Charles or Howard in the 1920 census nor was Charles located in the 1930 census; however, he is recorded as a lodger at St. Joseph Orphanage in 1940 and the record indicates he was living there in 1935. His name is recorded as Charles M. Walker, Lodger, Male, White, age 38, Single; He attended school through the third grade. He is recorded as born in Arkansas and lived in the same place in 1935. His work and everyone else's on the page is recorded as Inst. Because he was recorded on line 79 additional information was collected which states both parents were born in Arkansas. English is his mother tongue and his usual occupation is a Laborer. [4]

Charles' niece knew he lived in the Little Rock area and that he died around 1960. She had an exact birth date from the Orphanage papers she had acquired years ago.

With his exact date of birth and the newly released Arkansas Death Certificates we found his death date, then quickly located his obituary and finally his Findagrave memorial.[5]. [6]. [7]

His obituary indicated he had lived at St. Joseph Orphanage since 1911 which corresponds with family papers.[8]

At this time we believe he was never married or had children. His niece has her DNA available in a couple of databases and to date, there aren't any shared matches with people considered to be descendants of Charles. She has many shared matches to the Pickett family and related Pickett and Hester lines.
