Biography
JOSEPH WARD was born in 1686 as the second known son of CAPTAIN SETH WARD and his wife, ANNE HATCHER WARD, of Henrico County, Virginia. From the Secret Diaries of William Byrd, II, we learn that he died June 20th, 1741 at the age of fifty-five at Dale Parish, then Henrico County, Virginia.
JOSEPH WARD married SARAH STEWART, daughter of JOHN STEWART and M. BALLOW STEWART, circa 1720 by whom he had issue: JOSEPH WARD II, SETH WARD, WILLIAM WARD, STEWART WARD, JOHN WARD, LEONARD WARD, ANNE WARD, and SARAH WARD. His widow, SARAH STEWART WARD, died circa 1762.
