Captain Israel Ward was born in 1737, in Newark, New Jersey, a son of (E)Lemuel Ward and Hannah Pierson Canfield. During the Revolution he served as a Captain in the Eastern Battalion of the Morris County militia and a Captain in the Essex County militia and a Captain in the NJ State Troops. [1]
Captain Ward is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A120530. DAR records indicate that Israel died April 4, 1793, in Hanover, New Jersey and that his wife's name was Betsey Bonnell. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, Aaron Ward, who married Hannah Squire; and of their daughter, Elizabeth Ward, who married John Freeland.
