Nathaniel Waterman was baptized at Salem, Essex, Massachusetts on August 2, 1637, son of Richard and Bethia (Unk) Waterman. [1][2]He was likely the eldest son as his inheritance included more real estate than his brother Resolved. [3][4]
1663: Served on the Town Council, and was chosen again for this office over 20 times in the succeeding years, up to 1711. [3][4]
1674: June 1: He had recorded that he owned a houselot on Town Street, formerly the land of Ezekiel Holliman, and formerly the land of Richard Waterman, deceased. [3]
He owned a company Indian prisoners from King Philip's War. [3][4]
His house was chosen as the 'Royal Garrison' house for 2 months after the attack in King Philip's war. [3]
1677: Sixty acres were laid out for Nathaniel in the original right of his father Richard. [3]
1678/9: March 3: Assigned as auditor of town accounts. [3]
1679: July 1: Nathaniel and his mother are on the 'rate list'. [3]
1680: June 7: Served on the committee to repair highways. [3]
1682/3: January 16: He was among those that signed an agreement with the Town of Providence regarding the lands of the original proprietors of Pawtuxet of which his father Richard was one. [3]
1684: October 27: Served on the committee of 'ratable lands.' [3]
1687: Chosen as overseer of the poor under Andros regime. [3]
1689: May 4: Nathaniel, among others, made notice that they had laid out of lands that had belonged to the 13 original Pawtuxet proprietors. [3]
1695: August 28: Nathaniel, with the consent of his wife Susanna, sold the 60 acres given by his father to Shadrach Manton. [3]
1698/9: January 2: He conveyed lands to his son Benjamin. [3]
1708: August 25: Nathaniel bought six acres of meadow from John Whipple of Providence. [3]
1710: May 19: He conveyed land's formerly of his father Richard to his son Benjamin. [3]
1710/11: February 28: He conveyed his homestead and all his remaining lands situated in Providence to his son Richard. [3]
He married Susanna Carder, daughter of Richard Carder, at Providence, Rhode Island on March 14, 1662/3. [2][5][3][4]
Mary Carder widow, second wife of Richard Carder in her will of July, 1683 and proved in 1691, left 40s to her 'daughter-in -law (step daughter) Susanna Waterman. [3]
On May 3, 1711, his wife Susanna witnessed a deed by her mark. She died shortly thereafter as she is not mentioned in Nathaniel's will. [3]
