Raymond was a quiet child, and his boyhood years were spent helping with his family's dairy farm and other chores. He moved with his parents to Grant, Idaho in 1901, riding with his father on the freight train with their belongings and cattle.

While in Grant, he was injured in a fall. His parents had to borrow $50 to take him to Ogden, Utah where he had an operation to removed part of his intestine. He may have served for a short time as amissionery for the Mormon Church at about this time.

Raymond wanted to be well educated and he studied from any book that fell into his hands. He attended elementary school in Rigby, Idaho and graduated from Rigby High School. He then went to Logan, Utah to attend college. He was a member of the Alpha Sigma Fraternity while there. After graduating from the Agricultural College (later Utah Stat University) in Logan, he became assistant cashier at the First National Bank there. He remained in that position until illness compelled him to give up his work.

His health was very bad during 1914 and in August he had an operation in Salt Lake City. The doctors told him he had stomach cancer and gave him no hope of recovery. Knowing he had only a short time to live, he told his brother, Elmer that he had only two regrets--that he hadn't gotten married and that he had no children.

He entered a hospital in Loma Linda, California on 11 Feb 1915 and was there until the fifteeth. The doctors found that the passage to his stomach was nearly closed, and they didn't give him much hope of recovery. He was not able to keep food down.

Even as sick as he was, he went to the Mormon Church's Logan Temple and got his own endowments on 24 Feb 1915. Through all his suffering, he was a very patient man, even cheerful and kind to those who assisted him during his illness, bearing his pain with a fortitude seldom seen. Raymond had been suffering about eighteen months with cancer of the stomach. On his dying bed, he requested that an autopsy be performed so someone else might be helped through an investigation of his condition.

After much pain and suffering, Raymond died at about 5:30 AM on 14 Apr 1915 at home with his parents in Rigby, Idaho.

At his funeral, many friends and relatives bore testimony of his noble character and his integrity, perseverance and clean life.
