Isabella was born in 1819 in Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of Matthew Watt and Esther Cummings.^[1]

When Isabella was about 21 she married James Hepburn in 1840 in Langton, Berwickshire, Scotland.

The couple had 5 children:

1. Agnes Alice Hepburn,
2. Thomas John Hepburn,
3. Esther Darling Hepburn,
4. Sarah (Agnes) Marion Hepburn
5. Jane (Jessie) Margaret Hepburn.
