DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Melchior by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Melchior:
Weis-1 and Weiss-1239 appear to represent the same person because: These have same parents; same wife; same death info; birth dates diverge but one is clearly an estimate
Jones (1985) points to one record for Melchior bpt Apr. 28 1661 (p. 1097). And the name he shows is Wies. This is a fairly consistent spelling. A few more adjustments are benefited by this merge
I’m going to stick with Wies. That’s the spelling in Jones (p. 1096-7). I point out that Coons says “Wis or Wies” (p. 287). Perhaps more important is #3593 in Hoes, or the Subsistence List entry for Melchior (Knittle 290 - but not Simmendinger? See 299).
