Sarah, daughter of Thomas Welch, was born in Milford on 7 Dec 1660, or perhaps christened that day at Milford 1St Church[1]
Sarah Welch married John Fowler, before 1687, in Milford or New Haven. John Fowler died about 1693[2]
John Fowler died about February 1693, by one account killed in the taking of an Indian fort. [3]
The baptism of "John, s. Sarah", was recorded and dated 1690.[4] It was unusual for the mother's name, rather than the father's, to be recorded at baptism. Perhaps John was away fighting Indians at the time, perhaps the record is a belated one with an incorrect date.
The widowed Sarah (Welch) Fowler married Capt. Samuel Newton, as his second wife, about 1697.[5] No record of that marriage yet found in the town records, but their son Abner was born recorded as born to Capt. Samuel in May 1699.[4]
Sarah, "Mrs. Newton alias Fowler", died in Milford on 5 Aug 1723.[4]
[Newton-8970 | Abner], b. May __ 1699, m. Mary Burwell, removed to Durham
