Biography

Flavius Josephus Wells, son of William Wells and Lavinia Durbin, was born on 13 September 1848 in Hammond, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, USA.^[1][2] He was listed as two years old on the 1850 Census, living in Livingston Parish with his parents.^[3] On the 1860 census, he was living with parents and siblings, listed as "William," age 11, in Springfield, Livingston Parish. ^[4] The family wasn't found in 1870. He was living with his parents at age 31, in 1880, at Tangipahoa Parish.^[5]

Flavius married Mertie Cate Threeton, daughter of Jacob Threeton and Mary Tucker, on 24 January 1883 in Tangipahoa Parish.^[6][7] They had two known children:

1. John Yokum Wells, b. 24 Nov 1883
2. Stella Caliste Wells, b. about Jan 1886

In 1900, the family was enumerated on their truck farm, which they owned free and clear of mortgage, in Ponchatoula.^[8] Joining them in 1910 was their daughter's husband, Lucius Alford.^[9]

By 1920, Lucius was noted as the head of the household. ^[10] Thereafter, Flavius lived with his daughter's family, possibly on the same farm.^[11]

Flavius was widowed in 1935.^[12] He died at age 89 on 17 January 1938.^[1] He was buried at Wetmore Cemetery in Ponchatoula.^[13][14]
