Biography

Julia West was born about 1857 in Garafraxa township, Wellington County, Province of Canada. She was the daughter of William West and Mary Griffen and was recorded in their household in the census of 1861 and 1871. ^[1]

It is thought that her mother Mary became estranged from her husband and perhaps the rest of the family. In the Census of Canada in 1881 Mary and Julia are living together in Elora, Ontario and Julia is working as a dressmaker.^[2]

Information on he life story from here has not been found until 1935 when she appears on the voter rolls in Victoria, British Columbia, living with her sister Frances. Both women are listed as spinsters. ^[3]

Julia passed away in Victoria on January 23, 1937. ^[4]
