It is said William buried her under an apple tree or sugar tree.
Research Notes
Several sons of Joseph Wheat could have been the father of Massah born in 1774 in Virginia:
No evidence has been found that Zadock Wheat was ever married or that he had any children. No records identify Zadock Wheat as Massah’s father. The Marriage Bond for William Long and Massah Wheat of Bedford Co, VA does not state Massah is the daughter of Zadock. The bond only shows Zadock was surety for the marriage. However, this marriage bond was used as the source of Massah being named as the daughter of Zadock on FindAGrave (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/126512353/massay-long) and numerous trees.
Basil Wheat is not likely the father of Massah because Basil was in South Carolina by 1790 when Massah was only about 16, so it is unlikely Basil would have left Massah behind in Virginia where she married in 1795.
John Wheat could possibly be the father of Massah because he was residing in Bedford Co, VA in 1774 but his wife would have been about 44 years old at the time of Massah's birth.
Joseph Wheat is most likely the father of Massah. He was living in Bedford Co, VA and his wife Lucy was about 29 years old when Massah was born. Surety for the marriages of Joseph's daughters were paid for by others; Lydia had Zadock Wheat for surety, Polly had Israel Winfrey for surety, and Nancy had her brother Basil Wheat for surety (http://www.vagenweb.org/bedford/bedf-m_w.htm).
