Mary Stadden's will written 4 March 1844 mentions eldest son John. Her house on Upper Market St in Milton to be sold to benefit her four children. Catherine to have the family Bible. Silver spoons and corner cupboard to Margret. Mentions eldest son John to be exe along with son-in-law Charles Riddle. Dated 4 March 1844. [4]

This indenture made the second day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand, eight hundred and twelve. Between Catherine White, widow of John White deceased and the heirs at law of the deceased to Peter White, Jacob White, John White, William White, Mary the wife of William Statdon, Elizabeth the wife of Daniel Shultz, Catherine the wife of John Smith, Anne the wife of Joseph Brittain, Eve the wife of William Jones, Sarah the wife of John Rodenbaugh, Margaret the wife of John Moore, all of Northumberland County of the one part and Phillip Appleman and Peter Appleman Junior of Hemlock Twp in the county in the county of Northumberland and commonwealth of Pennsylvania yeoman of this part. Where as Hugh McBride and Mary his wife by indenture in order their hands and seals bearing date the thirty first day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred ad seven for the consideration therein ? did grant and confirm unto John White and his heirs and assigns A certain tract or piece of Land situated in Hemlock Township aforesaid containing one hundred acres of land and allowance of six percent for roads with the appearteances?
To hold the same for him and his heirs and to assign forever as in and by the said recited indenture. Recorded ? for the County of Northumberland, in deed book Q, pages 581 & 582. Relation being then unto had appears.
This goes on for two and a half pages. The signatures indicate that all the sons and son-in-laws could write their names and all the women made a mark. (BRI HIS 123)
