Research Notes

Some sources, such as Find a Grave, note JF as the son of Wesley and Elizabeth.

In addition to the above, I believe John Fletcher White is likely Wesley's son based on the following indicative, but not firm evidence:

1. The book "History of Decatur County, Indiana" details the Reverend Wesley & Elizabeth White joining the first "class" of the Methodist Episcopal Church near Greenburg in the early 1820's. (Census data shows that Wesley White and family lived in Pulaski KY in 1820 and Decatur IN by 1830, and land grant certificates show Wesley acquiring land in this area in 1826.) 2. Marriage certificate of JF White and Jane Snodgrass in 1835 shows to have taken place at that Methodist Episcopal Church in Decatur County. 3. The 1850 US Census shows JF White (confirmed as John Fletcher) living next door to Wesley (sp. Westly) White, still in Decatur County. 4. John Fletcher White has a son named Wesley... possibly a coincidence but just as likely a family name.

The one conflicting piece of evidence is that Lucretia and John Fletcher's birthdates are too close together... it's possible one is an error. Pending further confirmation.

Ancestry DNA matches show a connection from Wesley down through John Fletcher's descendants (through matching with descendants from Wesley's other children). Changing father to "Confident" but will wait to mark as DNA confirmed.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

I have tentatively added Wesley White as JF's father. Have seen it in several locations. I've added the 1850 census which seems to support this. Will be back to add additional sources.

Hello Crystal and welcome to Wikitree.

I don't see how the 1850 Census shows Wesley as JF's father. We have app's that will help you to create citations. We have the sourcerer which you can use to find source citations from other sites like Family Search, Findmypast, just to name a couple. We also have the Ancestry Citation Builder https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Apps

Hope this made sense.

Thank you, I will look further at how to do this. If it makes more sense for me to unlink Wesley from John Fletcher at this point, I can certainly do that.

No no, that won't be necessary. We can always change it if we find out differently.
