Biography

James England White is believed to have been born about 1830 in Henderson, Chester County, Tennessee, the son of Isaac and Ruth (Sorrells) White.

James' siblings were:

He married Lucy Elizabeth Gifford (b. abt. 1831 in Kentucky) August 17, 1848 in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas.^[1]

The children of James and Lucy were:

In the 1850 U.S. Census, James is listed as a 19 year old farmer with his wife Lucy and 1 year old daughter Rutha living in Round Pond Township of Independence County, Arkansas. Living with them is a 10 year old Sarah Hays.^[2]

He married Elizabeth F. Hogue (b. May 15, 1830), the daughter of Solomon G. Hogue on March 16, 1856.^[3][4]

The children of James and Elizabeth, all born in Arkansas, were:

The 1870 Census shows James at the age of 39 with his wife Elizabeth and nine children living in Grant Township of Johnson County, Arkansas where James worked as a farm laborer. Living with them is Elizabeth's father, 66 year old Solomon Hogue from Georgia.^[5]

James England White died November 12, 1895 and was buried at the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Cleveland, Oklahoma.^[6][7]
