Charles Wilbor, son of Dr. William Wilbor and Esther Burgess, was born on Aug. 22, 1732 in Little Compton, Rhode Island. His father, a Quaker, was a farmer and physician and, in 1740, had expanded the family home to accommodate his large family of 11 children, doubling the size of the house.
Charles married Hannah Borden in 1757 and they would have 3 sons and 8 daughters together. One son, Isaac, became a lawyer, was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives, served as Speaker of the House, then as Lieutenant Governor and Governor, was elected to the 10th Congress of the United States, and finally as Associate and then Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court.
Hannah died in 1779 at the age of only 44. Charles would remarry in 1780 to a Hannah Sisson. He lived to the age of 77, dying in 1810.
