Biography

John was born about 1640[1]. He passed away about 1704.

On 27 August 1700, John Wilkins of Bristol, yeoman, for the love and affection he bore towards his daughter Mary Pepper, wife of John Pepper late of Bristol, conveyed to Mary one acre at Bristol, along with interest in the house on the land. The deed mentions that his two daughters Mary Pepper and Abigail Ellerree had already agreed upon a division of the house.[2] Mary is possibly the Mrs. Mary Pepper who married Richard Jenkins at Bristol in 1701.

The children of John and Anstis were John (1674-1681), Anstis, Abigail, a second John, Samuel, Mary and Mehitable Wilkins.

Children Birth Records: John, 30 Apr. 1674 and 2 Apr. 1681 [3]; Anstis, 17 Aug 1676, [4] (births in Boston); Samuel, 31 May 1683 and Mehitable, 2 May 1685. [5] (Bristol, Rhode Island)

Other Family Information: Some of son Samuel's Probate Papers are found in the Bristol County, MASS files (Case #28363) dated in year 1723 had an indenture agreement dated 22 Mar 1721. Among those named are sisters Mary Mumford, Abigail Ellery, and Mehitable Trebee (Treby). Capt. Stephen Mumford, Benjamin Ellery, and Peter Trebee were husbands respectively. [6]

Daughter Mary appears to have married 4 times: _______Pepper, Richard Jenkins, Joseph Rogers, and Capt. Stephen Mumford. [7] Died in 1757 in her 87th year and interred at the Common Burying Ground, Newport, R. Island. [8]

Daughter Mehitable's marriage record to Peter Treby has not been located. A child (Mehitable) w/ Peter was recorded in Newport 24 Nov. 1716. [9] Mehitable's death was in Bristol County under the last name "Wilkins" as "of Jonh and Anstess, 92nd y., July or Aug., 1776. [10]

Will: Found at Bristol County, MA: Probate File Papers, 1686-1880, Case #28361, American Ancestors (NEHGS). Mentions wife Antsis, son Samuel, daughters Mary Ginkins, Abigail Ellery, and Mehitabel Wilkins, grandson William Ellery, and son-in-law Benjamine Ellery.
