Note: Millard Earle Winecoff, 85, of Fifth Avenue Northwest, Hickory, passed away on Jan. 15, 2007, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a brief period of illness. Born on May 11, 1921, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Bachman R. and Margaret Hurlocker Winecoff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rowe Winecoff; and a sister, Margaret Barnes. A longtime resident of Catawba County, he was retired as a furniture executive and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended Winecoff Elementary and High School, and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1942. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of Ducks Unlimited and lifetime member of Trout Unlimited. He was president of the Kiwanis Club of Western Catawba County, a longtime member of the Hickory Kiwanis Club and the Thursday Night Poker Club. Mr. Winecoff is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Hartness Winecoff; two daughters, Elizabeth Olson and husband, Chuck, of Calabash and Deborah Wilson and husband, Jan, of Hickory; four grandchildren, Jon Hargett of Wilmington, Virginia Collins and husband, Matt, of Van Alstyne, Texas, Betsy Wilson of Hickory and Katie Wilson of Hickory; a great-grandson Michael Collins; and a sister, Frances Adderholdt of Lenoir. Per his request, a private graveside service for the family will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.
