Note: Facts from various family members (Willla Wolff Varner, Joyce Wolff Phillips, Gladys June Wolff Lias, David Otto Lias)
Robert Eugene Wolff drove a 1947 Cadillac. He worked as a molder and a craneman before starting his own building supply business. He was color-blind and relied on others to let him know if traffic signals were red or green. He was also far sighted. Later in life, he suffered hearing loss and had a heart attack.
Robert Eugene Wolff's parents lived in various houses (mostly rented) in the area of Franklin and Marshall Townships in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, eventually living in a small house on State Gamelands Road, between Weinman Road and Big Sewickley Road. One of Robert Eugene Wolff's great uncles, Tom, lived in a log house at the bottom of Weinman Road and operated a blacksmith shop out of the barn. He eventually moved into the small house located between Weinman and Big Sewickley Roads.
At the beginning of his marriage, his family also lived in various rented houses including a farm house (identified as Duthill Farm House) on Weinman Road, a small house off of Mingo Road en route to Route 19, Wexford. Eventually, Robert Eugene moved an abandoned railroad station (possibly from Wexford Bayne/Rochester Road station), up a cart path at the bottom of Weinman Road to serve as home for his growing family. Eliza Ford Wolff planted daffodils along the edge of the ridge above the cart path. (In later years, many daffodil bulbs have been transplanted from that location the family's final home, numerous gravesites and the homes of many of Robert and Eliza's ancestors.)
The family's final home was on David Road, off of Big Sewickley Creek Road. Two sisters with the last name of Davis originally owned the property on Davis Road and wanted to be able to sell some of it. The Davis sisters made a deal with Robert Eugene that he could have his choice of the properties in exchange for building Davis Road. He claimed three sections. One piece of property already had a small house, and he moved his family into it. He built the final family home on another of the sections of property. The third section was across Davis Road and was sold. A house was built there, but it is no longer standing.
Side note, the Davis sisters lived in a farm house along Big Sewickley Creek Road that was eventually purchased by one of Robert Eugene's and Eliza's daughters and her husband--Eliza Margaret (Honey) Wolff Janosik and husband, Paul Joseph Janosik.
