Biography

Birth

Eliza Caroline Young was born on 1st April 1828. She was the daughter of Samuel Harris Young and his wife Elizabeth. Her baptism did not take place until 13th August 1851 when she was baptised, along with two of her siblings, at St Mary the Virgin, Chalgrove, Oxfordshire.^[1] Her father stated on the register that he was a farmer and that the family were living in Brightwell Baldwin at that time. Both her birth and baptism dates were recorded on the register.

Marriage

Battin Harrison and Eliza Caroline Young were married by licence at St Bartholomew's, Brightwell Baldwin, Oxfordshire on 22nd October 1851.^[2] They were bachelor and spinster and both of full age. Battin was a gentleman living in Kidlington, Oxfordshire and the son of John Kentfield Harrison who was a gentleman. Eliza was living in Brightwell Baldwin and the daughter of Samuel Harris Young who was a farmer. They both signed their own names on the register and the witnesses to the marriage were William H Franklin, Julia Sophia Young, Samuel H Young and Anne Esther Knight.^[3]

In the 1871 census Eliza (age 42) was the head of household in St Giles, Berkshire, England.^[4]

Eliza's death (age 44) was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1873 in the Reading district.^[5]
