Biography

Daniel Romain Young was born Aug 2, 1860 in MN, USA. ^[1] In 1865, at age 5, he lived with his parents Daniel Young and Amanda C Lawrence on their farm in Watopa, Wabasha, MN.^[2] He may have been born in Watopa as his parents had acquired the farm in 1861 shortly after their arrival in MN.^[3] The 1860 US Census for Watopa, MN was taken in June and his parents were recorded there at that time. He would be born 2 months later in August.^[4]

Daniel continued to live with his family in Watopa, MN through 1875. ^[5][6] By 1880, the family had moved to a farm in Omro Township, Yellow Medicine, MN. Daniel, who was nearly 20 years old was assisting with the farm work.^[7]

On Jan 4, 1884, Daniel married Annie L Hilts in Minneapolis, MN.^[8][9] There they started a family with the birth of Daniel Robert Young in 1885. ^[10] The family continued to push West. Son Frederick Sanborn Young was born in Helena, MT in 1889.^[11]

On Oct 13, 1891, Daniel Romain Young married his second wife Charlotte Ann Miles in Victoria, BC, CAN. Charlotte was the daughter of Walter Miles and Mary Selina Hollins of Victoria, BC. Daniel’s profession at this time was in real estate.^{[12] [13][14]}

Daniel was a Speculator.

In 1901, Daniel was working as a speculator near Nelson, BC, CAN ^[1] with children being born in Rossland, Vernon and Nelson, BC. ^[15] In 1909, Daniel and Charlotte lost their first child Hazel Vivian Young in Victoria, BC due to illness at the age of 16. ^[16] In 1911, Daniel’s occupation was given as a journalist and he and the family were living in the Queen Charlotte Islands. He lived there with wife Charlotte and children Lawrence, Mervin, Charlotte, Nola, Cecil, and Evelyn.^[17]

Daniel passed away of heart trouble while working near Port Angeles in Gettysburg, Clallam, Washington on Jul 22, 1915. He had been working as a speculator in the mining and oil industry.^[18][19] and had been living in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.^[19].

Daniels two wives, Anna Hilts and Charlotte Miles both survived him. Anna passed away in 1950. and Charlotte in 1962.
