I regret to have to record the death of another old and respected settler, that of Mr John Blechynden, sen.
He died at Beverley at the residence of one of his brothers, Mr Edwin Charles Blechynden, on Sunday, the 14th inst., and was buried on the following Tuesday in the old Beverley Cemetery by Canon Grosser.

The funeral was largely attended by his numerous relatives and friends. The undertaker, Mr Warsbrough, carried out all the arrangements satisfactorily. His eldest daughter was with him at the time of his death and two of his sons, Messrs J W and Arthur Blechynden, on the receipt of a wire stating the doctor had no hope of their father's recovery, traveled all night, but did not reach Beverley before his demise.
Mr Blechynden was one of our first settlers, arriving here about 1858. ^[1]
He married in 1860 a daughter of Mr George Green, of Perth, by whom he had a large and respectable family of nine sons and four daughters, all of whom are living with the exception of two daughters. All but one son have settled in and around Bridgetown. Three of the sons are married.
He was noted for his geniality and hospitality, his house in the early days being, seldom without some weary worn traveller receiving shelter and food. He and his wife were born in W.A., and were, supposed to have been the first pair of W.A. natives united in marriage here. His wife predeceased him by some few years.
