Christine was born at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Drayton Road, Norwich, England on September 2nd 1949[1] and baptised in St. Mary's Church, Hellesdon on November 13, 1949. She is the daughter of Vic Hills and Alice Larner.

Christine began school at Kinsale Avenue, Hellesdon just after her fifth birthday in September 1954, She left that school in 1959 and just after her tenth birthday she began at Thorpe House School, Norwich.

She sang in the school choir at both schools and in 1962 she joined the Norwich Girls Choir; she remained a member until 1966 when she moved to Lowestoft. For the last two years in Norwich she was also a member of the Norwich Philharmonic and at Lowestoft she joined the Choral Society.

It was a few weeks after leaving school in 1966 that Christine went to Lowestoft to care for orphans and train for Nursery Nursing. She did her study in Tottenham while living in Hornsey North London. She went to Beckenham in Kent as a staff nurse. Afterwards she worked as assistant warden of Talbot Settlement in Camberwell, organizing voluntary work for the residents, and working with the poor in mental health, school care, country holiday schemes etc.

She studied at Lincoln Theological College for three years to qualify for parish work, and was commissioned in Southwark Cathedral in 1974 to work in the parish of St. Georges, Camberwell in south east London. In 1977 she went to work in Stepney in the east end of London. She worked for the Wellclose Square Charity, rescuing prostitutes and giving shelter to girls at risk. During this time she was involved with St. Paul's Dock Street and together with the parish priest did a soup run twice each week for those sleeping out in Temple Gardens on the Thames Embankment.

Living near Somerset House & St. Catherine's House gave Christine a chance to do regular research as she had become interested in family history as a teenager when she heard her Great Grandfather had emigrated to Australia in 1911. Some of her older aunts were able to tell her a little but it took years before she met two of her Australian cousins and their husbands when they were researching in England and another cousin in London gave them her phone number; by then she was married and living in Birmingham. She met her Australian cousins in Windsor and the next year one came back with her husband to stay.

Christine married Maurice George Frost in 1978, they had a civil ceremony at Hackney on January 27, followed by a Church ceremony at St. Mary Abchurch in the City of London the next day. They always kept January 28, as their wedding anniversary. They worked together at St. Mary Abchurch for the first three years of their marriage and they both sang with the 'Singers Workshop' at St. Mary Woolnorth. During this time they lived in Christine's flat at Peabody Buildings, Whitechapel, London, E.1.

Christine and Maurice

In January 1981 they moved to The Willows, Romney Marsh, Kent, It was a bungalow on a farm, between Brookland and Brenzett. They ran a craft centre and established the Theresian Trust with Fr. Hugh Clarke, O. Carm. In 1986 they moved the Trust to Yardley, Birmingham at the invitation of the Catholic Diocese, who rented them a suitable house for their work. They did not have any children but remained very close throughout the nineteen years of their marriage and were never apart from each other for more than a few hours, when Christine had long night shifts during the few years she was doing home nursing with the British Nurses Association in Kent and Sussex and working in Hill House Psychiatric Hospital in Rye.

While living on Romney Marsh Christine and Maurice both sang with Rye Singers. For about 15 years Christine worked with her husband Maurice for the Theresian Trust. They both became Catholics and members of the Carmelite Secular Order.

After Maurice died in 1997 Christine moved to Dublin, Ireland with a friend, where they continued to work with the Theresian Trust until she became a Carmelite nun in 1999. She entered at Hampton Carmel in Drumcondra, Dublin, but when that monastery closed she transferred to Kilmacud Carmel in Stillorgan, Blackrock, Co. Dublin.

Christine arranging roses for St. Therese's Feast

Christine began writing on St. Therese of Lisieux and her family in the 1980s at the request of a publisher-Anthony Clarke. She wrote two books and a number of booklets, articles and tape scripts as well as a video script. Later she wrote magazine articles and courses on various Carmelite saints.

After moving to Ireland in 1997 Christine continued to keep in touch with relatives and friends in England as well as cousins in Australia, South Africa and Canada and also with friends in U.K. and France. It was only after over thirty years of research that she discovered roots in Alencon, France where St. Therese was born, and where she had often stayed in the 1980s and '90s with her husband.

-I'm sending an invitation to join GoogleGroups, which we are re-starting this week. We'll probably do most group chat there, but the most important things will be posted on G2G, which you will be notified about if you follow the jewish_roots tag.

-You can also join Wikitree's discord server, where we have a Jewish Roots chat channel.

-If you have ideas or suggestions for the project, feel free to reply here or send me a message.

Just a note to say how much it is appreciated that you signed up to participate in the Biobuilder Challenge for November 2022, thank you for your contributions, remember if the males marry their wives will also count for this challenge. If you want to track your work see the link on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Biography_Builders Bob is in the process of updating this. If you have any suggestions for a challenge then please let Bob or Anne know.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers or click reply to this message and I will try to answer your questions.

PS If you would like to join the England Bio Builders Team let me know as I coordinate England Profile Improvement Teams

Hi Janet,

I would be happy to join the England bio-builders team, I am doing mostly English profiles for the bio builders challenge. If I join the team do I need to list the profiles I improve anywhere else? Let me know of anything else involved. I have a lot of English profiles on my watch list that need improving. I have one question about this when improving profiles I try to add all the children, siblings, etc. I know I will never reach on writing good profiles for all of them. Is it better to orphan them or leave them on my list even if I am not working on them? Thanks. Best regards, Christine

Hi Christine,

Thanks for getting back to me, I will add you to the England Biobuilder team list. see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England_Biography_Builders_Team_Page

In regards to adding new profiles whilst improving profiles I recommend first adding the original to the Need profiles added maintenance category for the county in which they live, Then when you do add the new profiles you can add them to the Integrators Challenge, profiles added to this challenge when orphaned will get promoted to the community for more work.

See the - https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1500640/wikitreers-join-join-integrators-challenge-december-2022 to sign up I also recommend for those profiles that have emigrated you take a look at the https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1500614/dec-2022-biobuilders-people-who-emigrated-read-the-text?show=1501238#a1501238

Hope this helps

Thank you Amelia. I am happy to continue working on Bio improvement, I have done over 200 for the challenge now and most of them are England. I am also adding new profiles from time to time. I hope to do more with DNA but find it a bit complicated to figure out how to enter the triangulation, it needs more time than I can give it just now, but I will get to it eventually.

Hi Mike,

Yes I am happy to stay with the bio-builders, I do the monthly challenge to give me a focus, but when I don't find m/any profiles to answer the challenge I try to improve other bios. I have done about 50 for the challenge since the last check in. I frequently add small details to the profiles I manage and have added a few new profiles too. I think everything is going well.

Best wishes. Christine

Thank you Christine - appreciate all you are doing.

Hi Christine,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

Hi Joan,

I am working on the bio building. I do the challenge each month to get a focus and have improved about 70 profiles since May. I think I should come off the Sourcerers as although I add a lot of sources they are usually not to profiles that don't have any, so I rarely sign on the challenge.

I was on discord for a short time but prefer to use my time to work on my tree, though I read the google group posts every day and occasionally make a comment. I tend to use G2G more because it is usually easier to find things. I do the photo challenge each month.

I am also working on a cemetery, but that is in Dublin, where I live, so not part of the England project.

In April I did a DNA test with Ancestry, thanks to a cousin funding it for me, and I have been doing some follow up on that and adding it to a few profiles, though I have to do more work on it yet.

I am still working at getting my old hard copy notes on to WikiTree but I think that will take me the rest of my life as I keep getting distracted with research for the bios!

I hope that covers everything, please ask if it doesn't.

Thanks for all you all do,

Christine

Hello Christine, the England Project has changed the way that "Category:England Project" is used. Previously it identified England Project Members, now it is a category for the England Project Free Space Pages and admin pages.

I would therefore be very grateful if you would remove "Category:England Project" from your personal profile. Please contact me if you have any questions about this.

Many thanks, Jo, England Project Leader

Hello Jo

I would like to keep on the Biobuilders team, I do the monthly challenges which helps me to stay focused. I add sources as I come across unsourced profiles but am really concentrating on the bio building.

I am trying to get all my paper records online as well.

Thanks for all you do. Christine

Hi Steve,

Yes, I am still interested in this I am working on the Dublin Ireland team. I have photographed all the graves in the Kilmacud cemetery and am now working on profiles, though haven't added anything just recently as I have been doing other bio building, but I intend to finish all the cemetery bios as I get the time. Fionnuala O'Connor is helping me. I get the google group emails but not many come up for Europe, they mostly seem to be American cemeteries.

Hi,

The Global Cemeteries Project is currently undergoing our member check-in and wanted to verify that you are still active and interested in being a member of the project. Are you currently assigned to or working with one of our Cemetery Teams? If not, is there a particular Team or area you are interested in participating with? I would be delighted to help you get setup in one or more of our collaborative teams!

We use Google Groups for internal project collaboration, so if you are not yet setup for access feel free to submit a join request and we will get that approved as quick as possible. We also ask that members check their follwed tags to make sure you are following the correct project tag (CEMETERIES) so you don't miss any disucssions in G2G.

Last, but not least, we would like to thank you for all of your contributions to WikiTree and let you konw that any ideas or suggestions for improvement you may have for the Global Cemeteries Project would greatly appreciated!

I look forward to hearing form you soon!

Hello Christine

On behalf of the Canada Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members. Please let us know if you are still active in the Canada project. If you are active, please let us know in which ways you are currently contributing to the project.

All of us at WikiTree would like to thank you for your contributions and hope that you are enjoying exploring your roots.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Janet ~ Volunteer Coordinator

P.S.

If you joined the project only to show your connection to an ancestor, please consider using a Canada Stickers on your profile instead of the project badge

Hi Christine,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Hi Christine,

We’ve made some exciting changes to the Global Cemeteries Project. The sub-projects have been merged into the Global Project to help with Leadership and to facilitate collaboration.

Some roles within the project have changed. From now on, there are Project Coordinators for each continent, and one for Welcome and Integration, plus Team Leaders for each individual Country etc.

Please let me know if you’d like to stay on in the new project, if you’d like to continue in an existing role, and which team(s) you’d like to be on. Please also give me your e-mail address so that I can get you added to the project’s Google Group.

Christine, do you happen to speak any other languages? Would you check out our languages template and add it to your biography? For example you might add

{{ Languages | en | ro-2 | he-1 }}

to the top of your biography if you speak English natively, intermediate Rumanian and basic Hebrew, or you could use de-4 to specify near-native German or ru-2 for intermediate Russian, and so forth up to ten languages.

It really helps to know who speaks all the different languages used on WikiTree! If there is a language you speak that is missing from our categories, I would be happy to add it. If you only speak English, you're very welcome to use this text to make that clear:
