Origins

His origins were confirmed and published in 2008.[1]

This research confirms he was the son of Thomas Kent b abt 1563, d about 25 May 1605, and H/Ellen Pyle who were married 20 Jun 1585. H/Ellen was the daughter of Richard Pyle and Phillis Bassett.

Biography

The 2008/2009 article referenced above suggests that he married first Mary Drew on 19 Nov 1618 who was the mother of his first three children -- daughters Rebecca, Sarah, and an unknown third daughter; and that he married second Emme (or Emma) ______, mother of his son John Kent born 10 Jul 1645 in Newbury, MA.

He was born about 1586. Anderson incorrectly assigns him the birth date of by about 1597. However, we now know he was the oldest son of parents married in 1585, who had 8 or nine children born by 1605, and that Richard was of age when his grandfather made his will in 1609.[1]

He came to Massachusetts in 1634 on the Mary and John. He travelled with a slightly younger man by the same name, both of them settling in Newbury. He was referred to as "Sr" in most records until his 1654 death.

There is no evidence to support that he was the father of Joseph Kent, who has been previously attached as a son on this profile.

Kent-250 and Kent-7088 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth & death date. No conflicting data.

According to Briggs his son John married Sarah Woodman. The profile for John attached as son does not match that data while Kent-659 does.

Kent-7088 and Kent-250 are not ready to be merged because: Daughters in law don't match, As there were 2 of this name close in dates and places, confusion is possible, although that would seem to call the marriages into question.

Kent-7088 and Kent-250 appear to represent the same person because: Spouse citation on Kent-7088 is 2nd spouse in Kent-250.

Resolution of births is described in Kent-250. Death VR is the same. Last son is the same (duplicate profiles).

Does it make sense that Kent-250 and Unknown-317284 had children 8 and 23 years after marriage, at her age of 50? Shorte-11 appears to be a duplicate of Unknown-317284, but there are discrepancies, including a marriage record from 1599 of a couple with the same names.

I've detached Joseph, and project protected him (with adjunct tag) so he doesn't get re-attached. There is an interesting note on Joseph's profile that he may have had siblings Joshua, John and a sister, based on a relative's will.

Fiske didn't record any son named Joseph, last child, son John.

Is Joseph Kent-1891 supposed to be attached to these parents? The biography says no.

Two Richard Kents-- born about 8-10 years apart-- travelled in 1634 on the Mary & John, settling ultimately in Newbury-- both of them. This is discussed in Great Migration vol IV, starting on p. 140. It is well sourced. And concludes that the origins are not known, so I don't know where these origins came from...

I agree. Do you have other (better) sources that will help us straighten this out?
posted by Terry Kraft
I fear this profile currently conflates two different men and spouses. There are internal inconsistencies with the info provided.
