Hi Sheryl: Thanks for the welcome. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience right off the bat. I was getting acquainted with the website and found the pull down menu that had Family Tree on it - I wanted to start one - at the top it says "we found records on Liane Mace" - it said 2 birth records - hmm, curious - so I clicked the button "view all records" and it took me to My Heritage which I thought was Wikitree - I started putting in my info before I really took a look at this page - then I thought "wait a minute" - there's a cart at the top of the page & it didn't look like Wikitree - so I scrolled around looking for the Wikitree name - went back to Wikitree looking for My Heritage & finally figured out this wasn't Wikitree - so I went back thru each page deleting my info - then it flashed a "delete account" - oh, yes - clicked that and it wouldn't let me do it until I put in my password - I never did a password - only on Wikitree - I couldn't complete the cycle, so reluctantly I put in my Wikitree password and, or course, it didn't work. They said "forgot password" - we'll send you an email to fix this - so I went along, duh! - got the email and thought, I don't want to make a password with these guys - I don't want to have anything to do with these sheisters. So I just left there - if they send me an email, I'm going to let them have it :-)

Other than that, I think it's so great that you all created this wonderful site. I'm looking forward to playing.

In response to your comment, you are at the Family Member level, and there, you will see ads for related sites that keep WIkiTree 100% free for members. This page explains the levels: Membership information.  

All information for WIkiTree is accessible at the Help tab at the top-right of the profile, and Help Search; anything else on the page for other sites won't show at the full member level when you sign the Honor Code.

To explore what might already be on WIkiTree for your ancestors, these tips will help.

  • At the top of this page, you see SURNAME entered.  Click the magnifying glass, and you get a list of all SURNAME profiles on WikITree, and you can sort alphabetically or by birth or death dates to see if family members are already on WikiTree.  You can repeat this for each surname you are researching or add a first name to see all the profiles on WikITree.
  • You could download a gedcom from a site or program you have entered your family and upload it to WikiTree for the GEDCOMpare process.  This page lists gedcom links for more information: Gedcom Topics.
  • You might want to set up a free account on FamilySearch.org and research to see if your ancestor is there.  The FamilySearch records are outstanding and sometimes attached to the person on their FamilySearch profile, which can list parents, spouses, and children to help you get started.
