Michel, I wondered if you have joined the French Heritage group on FTDNA? I so love seeing the matching mtDNA kits here on WikiTree, as I'd have to bug my uninterested second cousins for a test of my maternal grandfather's line.

Hi Karen. It does appear that I joined the French Heritage group on FTDNA at some point, but I've never really done much on there. FTDNA is just where my data went after National Geographic shut down Geno 2.0. Did we match up there? I probably should upgrade that account but that would require sending yet another sample since Geno 2.0 samples can't be upgraded. Let me know if you need help in any Quebecois families as I do a fair bit of work there. Thanks for reaching out 8th cousin twice removed. :-) Michel

Oh, thanks! I can mostly read the parish records thanks to my 1980s schoolteacher Mme. O. (because Olejniczek is hard to say in first-year French). A distant Bordeleau cousin Michel was the fiddler in Québec supergroup La Bottine Souriante - do you know them?

I suspect we won't match on autosomal since I'm only 1/16 québécoise. You could look for my late aunt Peggy Jarosak or her first cousin David Groomer on Ancestry, but they probably won't match either. :(

Hi, Michel

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Michel

I see that you have had your DNA tested, congratulations! Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

To be able to add names, you will need to upgrade. You can do this from your Upgrade page. Just answer the five questions, e.g. who you want to communicate with, if others can see your family tree, what surnames, locations, or topics interest you, etc, and click on the green box that says "Upgrade”. We will then be able to confirm you as a member.

Upgrading just means you will become a Family Member with the ability to work on your immediate ancestors to help us achieve our goal of joining all individual family trees into one global family tree.

I hope this helps! If you have any problems, let me know.

Take care
