Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
William (MackGehee) Macgehee Sr. was a Virginia colonist.

The William Macgehee born abt. 1672, who was the brother of Thomas, is seen in the 1698 Titables for New Kent County and may be seen as the property for 17 August 1725, Great Rocky Creek, Hanover County, Virginia.

William Mackgehee, of King William, was patented 1,000 acres on both sides of Great Rocky Creek and on the south side of Northanna River in Hanover County. It was dated 17 August 1725. He is most likely the William MacGhee who was the Quaker and may have been married to Mary Carr.

His death most like was in 1748/1758 and most likely took place in Great Rocky Creek, Hanover County, Virginia.

William MackGehee was not born in King William County. The formation date for this county was 1701. If we can assume that he was born in what is now King William County, the correct birth location in 1672 would have been New Kent County.

Hi pms, I have merged all the duplicates of this profile (hopefully!). One outstanding issue is sorting out the children. Some are clear enough as they are on the list of possible children On this bio. There are others that aren’t - one Mary and two Anns. The other potential child is Carr McGehee. He is currently connected as a son of Mary Carr, but still linked to William b 1689. He is a little problematic as he was supposedly born about 1728, which makes Mary Carr rather too old to be the mother without tweaking the estimated DOBs. Any input would be appreciated. Any other issues? Thanks.

MackGeHee-5 and MackGehee-3 appear to represent the same person because: Same father, similar death details. Birth in 1672 seems to be more likely (father died in 1675). LNAB to be clarified, but suggest MackGehee. Thanks for reviewing.

Mcgehee-432 and MackGehee-3 appear to represent the same person because: Same approx birth and death details. Seems to be the same wife. As per the information in the bio, Mcgehee-432 seems to be connected to the wrong parents (ie his brother and sister-in-law). LNAB to be confirmed in consultation with PMs, but if no other advice, use MackGehee consistent with other sibling. Thanks for reviewing.

MackGehee-9 and MackGehee-3 do not represent the same person because: Probable typo on id. One is William and one is Thomas and birth dates are off by ten plus years.

There seems to be some confusion about the the death year for William MacGehee born abt. 1772 who died abt. 9 December 1748 (1758) It would be could to see the source for this date.

Is there proof for the date of birth for William MackGehee dated 1 November 1672? Also how do we know this is the William who died in 1748 in Caroline, VA ?

MackGehee-9 and Mcgehee-432 are not ready to be merged because: With the differences in DoB & DoD - also a note in the bio of Mcgehee-432 stating 432 may be a brother to Thomas, the father listed - the profiles need more research before merging.

MackGehee-9 and Mcgehee-432 appear to represent the same person because: Please review these potential duplicates.

Thank you. NOTE date of birth and date of marriage - the earlier date is much more likely. ALSO shown as a range in bio.

MackGehee-9 and Mcgehee-432 are not ready to be merged because: One of them may well be the uncle of the other.
