Biography

Jacob Sigler was born about 1736 in Virginia.

In the 1790 Census, Jacob Sergeler was enumerated in Iredell, North Carolina, as head of a three person household (two males - 16 and over and one female).[1]

He married Margaret Unknown as indicated in the Daughters of American Revolution (D.A.R.) document.

Revolutionary War

During the Revolutionary War, he furnished supplies.
The D.A.R. record for Jacob shows his surname spelled as "Ziegler".[2]

Last Will

Jacob Sigler's Last Will and Testament , dated 1 April 1817 in Rowan County, North Carolina was proved at August 1817 open court by the oath of Andrew Carson.
"I Jacob Sigler of the County of Rowan and State of North Carolina being aged and weak in Body but of perfect mind and memory knowing the mortality of my body and the certainty of my death
I do by these presents make and ordain this to be my last will and testament.
First of all I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to be Buryed in a decent and christian like manner at the discretion of my surviving friends.
And as touching my worldly affairs which it hath pleased God to Bless me with I give and bequeath in the following manner.
1st That all my Just Debts to be paid out of my Estate,
To my Beloved wife Margaret Sigler to her I leave all my whole Estate both real and personal during her natural life time or widowhood and at her decease or marriage for the whole of my property to be sold except three feather Beds which I leave to my Wife to dispose of at her discretion and whereas my Daughters Margaret Holeman & Mary Wales has never had horses given them by me, I direct that each of them shall have a horse as good as I gave to the rest of my children and my negroe girl Frank as she has ever been a good and dutiful servant I wish her to be well treated and for that reason I leave it to her choice to go to which of my children she would choose to serve and whichever of them she chooses to go to that they shall pay to each of the rest of the Legatees their proportionable of her real value and all the rest of my Estate both real and personal except that what has been above named and my Still that I give to my Son Philip all the rest to be sold at the decease of my Wife and equally Divided among my children Philip John Lawrence David Jacob and George Sigler, Margaret Holeman and Mary Wales Caty Bucy Betsey Nall If at any time my Wife should think herself Overstocked with property she with my Executor may make sale thereof and the money applyed to the use above directed part thereof to her use if she should stand in need of it My Real Estate I leave the Sale thereof with my Executor to be sold either at publick or private Sale as he shall think to be most advantagious.
Lastly I ordain & appoint my Son in law Samuel Wales my whole and sole Executor to Execute & put in force this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this first 1”. day April 1817:
