Steve Carell's maternal grandparents were Zygmont Koch and Francis (or various alternate spellings of those names). They were of Polish and/or Lithuanian and/or Russian descent.

Can anyone find more information about them? Francis's maiden name, for example? Their exact ethnicity? Thank you.

Here they are on two censuses:

I'm digging into it now, and I think I have quite a bit of clues. Her maiden name was Tolosky or Tolyosky and it appears she is Russian, Polish, or Lithuanian. So at least there's a specific region.

Her full name appears to be Frances Victoria Tolosky, born about 1894 in New York, I think in the Lyon Mountain area.

Plus I've captured her obituary and link into her profile [[Tolosky-1]]

I also have her set up on familysearch, if you want to take a look. Plus I've captured at least a little of her parents and brothers and sisters.

Steve Carell's maternal grandparents were Zygmont Koch and Frances Victoria Tolosky. She was born in Lyon Mountain (Clinton County) New York July 2, 1894. Frances was one of 4 children (3 boys). Frances and Zygmont were married in Nov 1910 @ St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain, NY.

Frances and Zygmont had 6 children. Stanley, the oldest, was born in Lyon Mountain, NY. To the best of my knowledge, there are two surviving children.

I am related thru marriage to the Tolosky family. My parents, maternal grandparents and Frances Tolosky were all born in Lyon Mountain, NY and ALL were married in the same church.

Frances (Tolosky/Tolosko with several variations) Koch, always told us that her family was Lithuanian. She was great grandmother to my two sons. Most of the family have records at St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain, NY. According to most census and vital records, her ancestors are from Poland. There were 7 children between Zigmond and Frances. There are currently two surviving. Zigmond died in Willsboro at the age of 42. He is buried at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Plank Rd, Moriah, NY. He came to the area with two brothers and a niece named Rachel who married and later moved with two daughters to Schenectady, NY as an engineer. I'll try to get a photo of Zigmond's headstone soon and I'll pull the records together to post.
