I was trying to compare Vredenburg-92 and Vredenburg-79 for merging, but the u (Czech version?) is not on my keyboard. How does one get around this?

This Wikipedia page has a list of “ring” diacritics, which is what I think you are talking about. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_(diacritic) Even my iPad which normally gives all the options for a letter does not have this one.

The  ů  is a bit down the list on the Wikipedia page. As Gaile notes, you can copy and paste these.

I think the common operating systems have a feature to activate foreign language keyboards, such as Czech, and you can switch between them as needed.

It is a u as in ---- well shoot, can't copy and paste here, lol. A u with a hash mark over it. When I looked it up, I got that it is a Dutch, Frisian, Czechoslovakian, Portuguese, Italian, etc. variant. See Vredenburg-93.

The Czech letters with diacriticals are these

á, č, ď, é, ě, í, ň, ó, ř, š, ť, ú, ů, ý, ž

Some of them you can get by simply holding down the key on a Mac. for example, holding the c gives you the č (and others to choose from, ç or ć) similarly for š and ž, but does not work for the n or r. Holding the u gets ú as an option (likewise for a, e, i, o).

If you have a sample of it on your screen, you can copy it, then paste it wherever you want to put it.  That's probably the easiest way, although there are websites where you can find character sets and get the codes for them that you can then type in.

Thanks. I was able to copy and paste. Not merging, however. Looks like they are sisters.
