Hi everyone,

I am new to this website and genealogy in general. :) Will be adding more and more to my profile with time indeed!

To start off...Can you please help me to understand the below?

Largest segment = 6.9 cM

Total Half-Match segments (HIR) 95.8cM (2.67 Pct)

23 shared segments found for this comparison.

415027 SNPs used for this comparison.

69.978 Pct SNPs are full identical

Comparison took 0.14.

CPU time used: 0.03.

TIA!

I added the DNA tag to draw the attention of those more knowledgeable in the subject. For starters, you may want to have a look at this article (which helped me understand DNA segments and matches).

Thank you! Still finding my way around. :)

Maria, what website did you take that information from?  (I'm guessing FamilyTreeDNA.)  If your largest segment shared with that person is only 6.9 cM, I'd say it's quite a weak match and I personally probably wouldn't bother investigating it.  If all the 22 other segments are smaller than 6.9 cM, they are likely unreliable.

I'll send you a WikiTree message with a couple links to more information.

Thank you for your reply. It is from GEDMATCH website. Thank you again!
You're welcome.  I'm guessing that you didn't allow the minimum segment size to default to 7.  If you do the comparison again, and don't fill in the blanks (just allow them to default as shown), then I'm guessing you will find that you don't match the person.

"False matches" are a complicated subject, especially for a beginner.  Here is one discussion that might be helpful:

Yeah, I've changed it manually when doing One-to-One comparison as I found this person in the list of potential matches, and, since I know him personally, was so intrigued that wanted to see how we match. :)
