My mother is dead, but her sister, My daughter and I have tests can we  get the mitoChondrial comparisons? How do I add the DNA Tests Gathered from family to my Wikitree?

You have entered your DNA test on your profile. It is an AncestryDNA test, which is an autosomal DNA test. It includes your human DNA across 23 chromosomes, but does not include an analysis of your mitochondrial DNA.

To get the mitochondrial DNA data for your maternal line (mother, mother's mother, mother's mother's mother, etc.), at least one of you women will need to take a different test.

If you have not done the mtDNA test, FamilyTreeDNA does the mitochondrial (mtDNA) test. With Mother's Day coming up soon there will be a sale for this test. If one or all of your group has done this test, then you just need to add the details to your DNA information here on WikiTree.

All microarray tests include markers on all DNA. It is the vendors choice what to use and pass on. 23andMe uses and passes on all. Ancestry happens to strip just the mitochondrial values off. FTDNA both Y, mito and X (except they will generate X in the file by request).

23andMe provides good enough coverage of mito for most uses in genetic genealogy, but you can get a full sequence. FTDNA does offer an a-la-carte full sequence. If you need other tests though, it is often better (and usually only a few dollars more) to get a full sequence of ALL your DNA.

ySeq WGS400 is the best in the market, period, at any price, and only $400. for the test and full genetic genealogy analysis. Nebula is next with a still clinical grade 30x WGS for $300 and includes many health analysis reports. Dante Labs 30x WGS is also there and frequently on sale for as low as $150. with limited free health-only reports (mostly non USA customers) .

These tests get better Y coverage than any other available test. And so are really valuable for testing males. Remember males carry the same mitochondria as their mother. So testing your brother or your mothers brother is even better.
