Do I have to have a Parent to add a sibling!?

Well, shoot.

Okay, I want to add a sibling to Mary "Molly" (Byrd) Morris, but the parents of the sibling - Nalupa - are unknown.  At best the mother is uncertain and the father could be Shawnee.  Or the relationship could be familial but not genetic.  At this point we just can't claim proof, or make an absolutely convincing case at all.

My options are 1) Assume that Nalupa and Mary Byrd are sisters (as stated in the record), and presume this to mean blood sisters.  This would mean the same mother.  Father uncertain.

2) Leave her dangling, lost and alone.

3) Find a way to attach her to Mary Byrd without having to attach her to any mother or father.

4) Something else?

Suggestions?

Yes it does, Julie, thank you.  It gives me an alternative.  Of course, I would have to link Nalupa to the other siblings as well, and anyone doing a quick search would miss Nalupa altogether.  Still, it's an option, and maybe the only one available to me other than to guess as to her parentage.  The more I think on it, the more reasonable it seems to attach Nalupa to her suspected mother and let the chips fall where they may.

I wouldn't be the first to make that mistake.
If you do that, mark it as uncertain, and fully explain in the biography.

I would add her as a child of Mary/Margaret (Dean) Byrd/sister of Mary/Molly since there's a document to support that. Then add Research Notes to explain the situation with the alternatives of who else she might be, e.g. child adopted by Margaret, child of Margaret and a Shawnee man, child of Margaret and an unknown father and what support there is - or isn't - for each possibility.  I don't think there's any way to know the truth, so I'd assume that what Molly told the Bouquet listmaker was true. if Nalupa has documented descendants they are so far back DNA probably won't help (although it might at least prove the negative).

Thanks again Kathie.  That's what I'll do.
