Exactly. I enlisted in U.S. Navy 1944. In recruit training, we were led by a Chief Specialist A Hagy. Prior to active duty, Chief Hagy was a high school coach. We were led to believe the A stood for Athletics. He entered active duty as a Chief Petty Officer, which was the highest enlisted rank at that time.
