Sharon, I notice that you indicated you were DNA tested. What ancestry is showing on the results of the test?

You can start building your tree by adding your parents and their parents all with good sourcing. Then you can add aunts and uncles. As you add ancestors it is likely that you will "meet" ancestors who are already here. And, we will have more information to help you search.

The only "information I have is remembering growing up being "told" my mothers great,great,great ?great grandmother was true Cherokee Indian princess. I have no other proof except for Indian items/decor etc being in our home and some "family day trips/vacations" to places of Indian heritage and sites. I was brought up extremely strict and was forbidden to ask about anything I was not directly told. I was given no direct information. There are no living relatives to get info from as I am the oldest living person of our family that remains.

Start by building your tree back as far as you can document.  Were any of those ancestors living in a place and at a time when the Cherokee were there?  If the answer is yes, then start looking in Cherokee records to see if you can make a connection. this was a quick search, so I'm not saying it is correct, but  a lead. Problem being they were all from NY and NJ , no where near where Cherokee lived.
