Wife Elizabeth, children Lottie, Frank, Elsworth, Charles

1880 Census-

He's missing but wife Elizabeth, children Ellsworth, Charles
Father's birthplace is South Carolina

Other records of the children I have found all say that Alex was born in South Carolina.   I'm not sure why earlier documents say Spain and Pennsylvania.   I have been unable to locate his marrige certificate to Elizabeth Hentz/Hanise (born in NY) or the birth certificates on his children, who were supposed to be born in NY as well.

Does anyone have any insight for me?
