Inserting a contact link within the bio

Sometimes when adding research notes to a bio I like to invite anyone with information to contact me (if I am the profile manage).  I used to right click on the "send a private message" link and paste the url to create a "contact me" link.  This does not work any more.  I can still create the url (I have it saved on my Nav home page) but how do I get the reference number for the page?

Or is this a really bad idea?  Are the links likely to fail in the future?

I have added a link to an example where I have used this.  Scroll down to the Research Notes.

Hi Chris. In what way do you mean it doesn't work any more? When I click on the let me know link in the Research Notes section on Sarah Duncalf, I get a popup window with the form to send you a private message. I didn't actually send a message, but it looks as if it would work.

Further to my comment, and in part thanks to Florian's answer, I see the problem now.

If you go to the Suggestions link on the Duncalf-6 drop down menu, you can get her number. It is 4836799. However, the let me know link you provided earlier has two numbers: 4825328 and 4958162. I'm mystified why neither of those is 4836799.

Thanks, Jim.  Yes, the "send private message" still works fine. It now opens a pop-up.  I used to be able to right click, copy link and paste it into the bio and it would work fine.  Now this does not give the full url  (it is missing the qualifiers with the ref nos for me and the page).  So my question is, can I get the ref. no. of the page somewhere else or is this something I shouldn't be doing?
4958162 is actually Doherty-517, as you can see after clicking at https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:EditPerson&u=4958162
Thanks Jim!  Ignore my previous message that "crossed in the post"!
And to answer Chris: the ref. no. of the page you can see in the address bar when editing the profile
Sorry!  I must have created a "red herring" by using and example with the duff link!  I'll get that fixed now!
I can't believe I've never noticed that after all these years!  Thanks, Florian.
It's only like that for a year or something. Before that there used to be the "more intuitive" ID.

There is something strange going on here.  I updated Sarah Duncalf's profile, Duncalf-6 (the attached example) by extracting the ref. number from the url, as suggested above.  Then I tried sending a message using the link.  When I closed the pop-up I was taken to Geertje (Krom) Hamel, Krom-72!  Putting back my original number (which I can't find any more) and it functioned correctly, staying on Sarah Duncalf's page.  Are there different ref. numbers being used by the message system?

The old links with the ref parameter were using the page ID, which includes both person and space pages. The page ID number is different from the person ID number.

Either way, you can't use the old link to pass a ref anymore.
Thanks, Jamie, that's really helpful.  I'll go old fashioned and just tell people to scroll up.

Looks like "they" changed it to open some javascript popup instead of a "real" new url. Did you try one of your old links? Do they still work? An alternative would be to ask people to click the envelope icon above there.

Thanks, Florian.  Yes, my old links still work.  I have considered the simpler approach of asking people to scroll back up.  It might yet be the best thing to do.  I do think though that a link to click right under their mouse is more likely to get results if I can again make it work easily and reliably.

Wow, I wasn't thinking of anything that technical.  I don't know javascript!  Just a simple url link is what I have always used.

In all my experiments the very useful line, "The sender was on this profile page when they sent the message..." is missing from the generated email message, whatever ref. number I use.
