It appears this institution which is in a historic district and in the Historic Registry. Also has a dark history of tragedies! The institution is named in many paranormal investigations such as ghost hunters etc.

So many tragic events linked to this historic place. The list seems never ending. Is there a free space page of the events?

Thank you

See Wikipedia

Note: it appears the site sits upon a old Native American village

Andrew, could I respectfully suggest that details of suicide may best be limited on WikiTree and G2G? There are risks involved. Please see the following guidelines, which initially concern journalism but are worth considering more widely:

Thank you for the edit, Andrew!

I've done time in more than one state hospital. Delving into genealogy I find that I have relatives who were imprisoned in the same, well, at the time, "lunatic asylum" that I was confined in. These places have become Halloween entertainment now, but there is something more horrific to them than a haunting by Native American spirits. I am sure there are many people at Wikitree who have uncovered one or another, perhaps even several, of these closeted familial skeletons. I think it would be good topic for discussion for the forum should anybody want to open that can of worms at one point or another. Norwich Asylum itself, in other words, is not something which I would consider more exceptional than almost any other total institution operating in the past, or even still operating to this day.  .

When it was open *cough, cough*, I did a term in DeJarnette Sanitarium, private wing of Western State Hospital in Staunton Virginia. As for Western State, done that, been there, too.
