Looking for more information

Question

In the National Historical Museum in Athens, Greece there is a lead medal issued by the Island of Cephalonia to Lt. Colonel John Whitehill Parsons. It is dated 1838. I am looking to see if anyone can provide information about why such a medal would have been made.
