Is "Xy" a real surname or some kind of designation for something else in the "mystery" category? Or what?

I am finding final ancestors with the first name where their surnames should be and their surnames are now, "Xy."  What is this all about?  Thank you.

Hi Richard,

It looks like those profiles were imported via gedcom a long time ago.  The manager has not had any activity since 2011, but you could contact him if you wish:  link to contact profile manager

I think it is an obvious mistake that you are welcome and invited to fix.  If you have any sources to add those are appreciated too :)

Thank you for helping keep it all straight.

Have a nice day!
