German researchers: Do we know anything about Johann Heinrich Koch (?-1792) and his 16 children?

Johann and Catharina Koch have quite an extensive family, but there is almost no information about any of them on their profiles.  Johann died March 9, 1792 in Nagelstedt, Thüringen, DE, and it appears that most of the children were born in the same German municipality.  We could add a lot to our common family tree if we could add Johann’s and Catharina’s descendants!

Hello, I am a descendent of Ludwig Koch son of Johann Heinrich Koch and Catharina Koch. I also have DNA correspondences with descendents of Johann Heinrich Koch's sons as Christoph Andreas Koch and Johann Friederick Koch. It is all new for me. I am still researching about everything,  but I just got to trace all lignes that connect me with the descendents mentionned. So yes, now you can find descendents of Johann Heinrich Koch.

Thank you, Frank.  Since the Johann Heinrich Koch in this profile died March 9, 1792, it is possible that this record might be for his son.  Since we have no information about his son other than the name, I'm hesitant to add this as a source, especially since tha neame of the father isn't an exact match.  In my experience, the second name (Heinrich) is more important than the first name, and that is the name that doesn't match.

I agree with you, Star. In my German-roots family tree almost every male ihas the first name of Johann, the distinguishing name is the second one. Also, many females have three given names.
In the village of my mother (Glauberg, Kreis Buedingen, Hesse, Germany) I found the same System: In the years between 1728-1854   80% of boys got the Name "Johann" and a second Name (Henrich, Georg, Conrad, Caspar ...), about 10 % Johannes (most without a second Name) an 10 % another given Name (most in famlilies with Partners of other villages).

Girls got about 80 % as first Name "Anna" and a 2. Name (Catharina, Maria, Barbara, Margaretha, Regina, Christina ...).

3 or more names couldn't be found very often, beside children of (Pfarrer?).

Thank you, Frank.  Since the Johann Heinrich Koch in this profile died March 9, 1792, it is possible that this record might be for his daughter.  Since we have no information about his daughters other than their names, I'm hesitant to add this as a source and guess which daughter this might be.

Dear Star,

In regards to your message about Johann Koch and Catherine Koch, I also have individuals with the same name, athough mine are 1578-1636 for Johann and 1579-1654 for Catherine.

Many not be the same people but possible from the same family. I have just add a gedcom with there details so give it a couple of days before looking on my profile for them.

Regards,

Michael B Ashby (Ashby-1321)
