WT Sourcer errors: AutoBio causes error UNMATCHED REF TAGS IN BIO

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem with WT Sourcer. Once I have pasted my sources, I run AutoBio and I always get  an error: UNMATCHED REF TAGS IN BIO
in WikiTree Tech by Cynthia Crafton G2G6 Mach 1 (17.6k points)

It sounds like this is nothing to do with WikiTree Sourcer. Sourcer never adds names to ref tags.

It looks like there are multiple issues with that profile. Inline citations pasted after the == Sources == line etc. It is hard to tell what exactly was created by Sourcer and what was edited manually.

If you see a case where Sourcer "Set Fields from Person Data" in the add process is putting <ref>s after the == Sources == line then please let me know how to reproduce.

It looks like you may have done this:

1. Save Person Data from GJL9-DLW
2. Add the new person using "Set Fields from Person data"
3. "Build All Citations" from GJL9-DLW with the default settings which creates narratives and inline citations.
4. Pasted the result after the Sources line. It should be pasted before the Sources line since it contains inline citations.

Note you can set the Sourcer option "Include all source citations after doing Save Person Data on a person profile (if site supports it)" in the Options page under Add/Merge -> Add Person. This will automatically run Build All Citations during the Save Person Data action and put them in the correct place.

Hi Rob,

This was a new profile. I did no editing, so you could see. I did the steps 1-4, ran Auto-Bio., tried to save, got the error, said save anyway and sent you the link.

I only run into this when I am creating a new profile. I already have this option set: the Sourcer option "Include all source citations after doing Save Person Data on a person profile (if site supports it)" in the Options page under Add/Merge. You are correct I did steps 1-4 as above.

As for pasting the citations before the sources line; There is a window for Biography and a window for sources. Should I be pasting in the Bio Window? Or going thru the citations to remove inline cit.

Thank you for your help.

Cindy

Thanks for providing more info Cindy.

If you are seeing two separate text boxes in the last screen of the add person process - one for Biography and one for Sources then you must have enabled the "Add Person Redesign" feature of the WikiTree Browser Extension. I don't normally test with that on.

But I just tried it and it seemed to work OK with the Sourcer "Set Fields from Person Data".

Pasting anything into the Sources box will put it after the == Sources == line so you should not paste narratives or inline citations there.

If you have the Sourcer option "Include all source citations after doing Save Person Data on a person profile (if site supports it)" set then it should automatically have put the all the inline citations into the Biography box. So you should not have to steps 3 and 4 at all.

Is it not putting the data in the Biography box for you?

It is possible that you don't have the right option checked. There are two separate options - one for Add Person and one for Merge/Edit.
It is the AutoBio that is causing my problem. If I don't use it, I don't get the error.

Thank You.

Have a Blessed Day.
Cynthia, did you have an inline citation in the Sources section?
I just used sourcer's "build all citations".

Do I have to examine those before I paste them?

As I said, I don't get the error if I don't use autobio

Honestly, yes, I would recommend reading anything you paste into a profile.  Sourcer has options/settings.  The options for Build all Citations are:

  1. Narrative plus Sourcer style inline citation
  2. Sourcer style inline citation
  3. Sourcer style source citation
  4. Inline citation using text on FS Sources page
  5. Source citation using text on FS Sources page

The results of two of those (3 and 5) can be posted in the Sources section.

Also, there is a reminder in the Sourcer settings that says, "NOTE: Some FamilySearch profiles have many incorrect sources - please check the generated citations."

On the whole, yes, you should be checking the things that you paste into a profile.  Examine them before you paste them in or after you paste them in, but examining them is a good thing to do.

Auto Bio is not expecting inline citations in the Sources section (as there shouldn't be any there), which, I think, is why you're getting this problem.  It's my fault for not anticipating this, and I will make a change to deal with it.

Ian,

I am sorry to be such a problem! But, I cannot find the options you refer to above. Where Do I find them?

Thanks for all your work AND your patience!
Hi Cynthia.  Don't worry - it took me some time to figure it out, too.

Sourcer Icon > Options > Add/merge > Subsection [FamilySearch Build All Citations]

Let me know if that's unclear.

I'm not that familiar with AutoBio but, in this case where you are creating a new person from an FS profile using the Sourcer "Save Person Data" feature with automatic Build All Citations, I think you will get the best results by using the "Narrative plus Sourcer style inline citation" option in Sourcer Build All Citations, setting the "Create an intro in the biography (Notes) field" option in Sourcer Add/Merge/Add Person section and not using Auto Bio.

With the old Get All Citations in WikiTree BEE it made sense to run AutoBio afterwards but I don't think it does now.

But I may be missing something that Auto Bio is doing that you don't get from the biography generated by Save Person Data.

In case you haven't seen it, the documentation for Sourcer Build All Citations (including how to run it automatically when doing Save Person Data) is here.

I had this problem a few times. It relates to the length of the description in the reference tag. If the reference tag reads <ref name=bill_smith_death_notice_1953> and you get the error, make it shorter, <ref name=death_notice>. This normally helps.
